My Health Journey
I was living abroad in Hong Kong from 2006 to 2012 with a newborn and had no close family or friends nearby. I had my second child in 2008. I was diagnosed with breast cancer at the end of 2009 and had a mastectomy and breast reconstruction a couple of months later. It was the most difficult and painful experience I have ever had. After recovering physically, I couldn’t get over why I had breast cancer. There was no family history of breast cancer and no one in my family smoked and I have never smoked. Why me? So, I did a lot of research.
I was reading all the books and online materials that I could get my hands on about causes of breast cancer. That was when I became interested in nutrition and holistic health. They resonated with me and gave me some answers I was looking for. I realized that I was out of balance in body, mind, and spirit. Physically, I was overweight and tired all the time, and mentally I was depressed.
Soon after my operation, I changed my diet drastically. For the next few years, I continued to read books on nutrition and often found contradictory information. Although I lost weight after changing my diet, I was still unsure of what I was doing and I continued to live in fear of my cancer coming back. I was never sure if I was eating or doing the right things, or if I had done enough to keep the cancer away. I felt anxious every time I had to do a mammogram and then waited nervously for my results. I knew then this was not how I wanted to live. I wanted to be able to take control of my own health.

During this time, I came upon the book, Reiki for Life, by Penelope Quest. I was fascinated and wanted to learn more. I read a few more books about Reiki and decided I would take a class. After some searching online, I decided to train with Eileen Dey Wurst in Seattle, where we had relocated after Hong Kong.
Eileen is a Reiki Master (teacher) and practitioner and is the founder/director of the Reiki Training Program, the only licensed vocational school of Reiki in Washington State.
REIKI MASTER
I received my Reiki I, II, and III (Master) training with Eileen from 2013 to 2015. I completed my Reiki Master class just before my family and I set sail to New Zealand from Seattle. Today I am a practicing Reiki Master and a member of Reiki NZ Inc., a professional organisation for Reiki practitioners and teachers in New Zealand.
Reiki has done wonders for my recovery as I feel a lot more balanced. But I still wanted to get a formal education in nutrition to have a deeper and fuller understanding of health and make sense of the contradictory information I was getting. That opportunity came in 2015 when we decided to make New Zealand our home. I did a full time 2-year naturopathic nutrition diploma at Wellpark College in Auckland and graduated in 2017.

MAINTAINING BALANCE
I can now say I am much more aware when there is an imbalance and am now well-armed with knowledge of how to correct the imbalance and what it takes to remain in tune physically, mentally, and spiritually.
My goal is to give my clients the self-knowledge to know when they are out of balance and the tools to bring them back into balance before the imbalance turns to a disease.
